Would You Like to Help at the Food Pantry?

Interested in helping at the Pantry?  Come on in!

Throughout the Bible, we find instructions to care for those less fortunate than ourselves, to share our bounty, particularly with the hungry and disadvantaged. This is the basis for our Pantry ministry, to help those who temporarily, or chronically, have a hard time feeding their families after they have paid rent, oil, transportation, childcare and healthcare expenses.

Most of our clients work full time or more, but it is a tough environment in this area, particularly right now.  Thank you for understanding that during the pandemic we had to reduce our staffing numbers to maintain social distancing and other public health guidance. We’ve missed having more of you in the family, so if now is a good time for you to come help us, PLEASE DO !!!

We hope to have a more automated system soon, but for now, let Debbie know of  your interest.  We’ll try to match the number of volunteers to the work in a given week, so that we make good use of your time.

What do we do?  Pantries are the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, except November/December where we operate on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays to better align to the holidays.  We are still operating in a drive-through, pre-packed bag model although we hope to go back to indoor shopping once the number of clients falls to a manageable level.  Right now, from 2-4:30 on Pantry Fridays, we pack bags and produce for distribution. Most weeks that means packing 240 bags of groceries weighing between 10 and 15 pounds, and 120 bags of produce at about 10 pounds each.   Then on Pantry Saturdays, staff arrives at 7:30, and from 8-11 we greet our clients one car at a time and load the groceries suitable to their family size into the trunk of the car.  Masks are optional on Fridays, but we still mask on Saturdays as we don’t want to be a superspreader location for anything, not just Covid.
