What could be more important to the health and well being of a democracy than the strength and quality of its system of public education? Funding for our public schools is under a grave threat, as is the very existence of the federal Department of Education. We all have an opportunity on 6/15 to sign letters to advocate to our 2 senators and our congressman for their support for public education by asking them to oppose the ECCA, a voucher scheme that intends to divert funds away from public schools, and to support the Department of Education.
