This Week’s 40 Cans for Lent Message

When we find comfort in the predictability of life, it can be quite difficult to embrace the unknown. Many of our neighbors, however, live with the unknown everyday. Not knowing if there will be enough money for their expenses this month. Not knowing if there will be enough food on the table. Not knowing when they will be able to find work again. How can we help? By embracing the unknown in our own way; preparing for it. We invite you this week to look to the future, dust off your crystal ball, and do some thinking. While we all celebrate the light at the end of this pandemic shaped tunnel getting brighter by the day, our work will not be over when we reach it. In 2018, 20% of the town of Yorktown was living paycheck to paycheck. That was prior to the pandemic and who knows how long it will take for them to recoup their losses in the past year? The road ahead seems long, but this journey through Lent has taught us much. If we can take the wisdom we gained along the way and pack our bags looking to the future, we can be a trail family for our hungry neighbors trying to find their way back home.
