Pancake Supper -Tuesday March 4

BLOG pancake supperCome one, come all….the Youth Group and Confirmation class will be hosting our annual Shrove Tuesday — Pancake Supper on Tuesday, March 4th from 5-7 pm.

Here’s a quick preview for anyone who wonders “why is it called Shrove Tuesday?” And “why pancakes?” The expression “Shrove Tuesday” comes from the word shrive, which means confess. Mardi Gras means “Fat Tuesday.” So, why do we eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday? Pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent because they were a way to use up rich foods, such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent. The liturgical fasting emphasized eating plainer food and refraining from food that would give pleasure. In many cultures, this means no meat, dairy, or eggs.

So, come, leave the caloric count and diets at the door and join us for the pleasure of some pancake indulgence!
All proceeds from the pancake supper will be used to provide scholarships for our children and youth to attend summer camp at Holmes Presbyterian Camp this summer. This is a great opportunity for them to have a faith-based camp experience.
