Friends,
In the midst of breaking headlines, constantly changing guidelines for daily living, and escalating stress and fear, we gather for worship on Sunday morning at 10:45 to do what we always do – to sing and pray, to listen and respond to God’s life-giving Word, to center ourselves in a reality larger than ourselves or our world – the firm foundation of God’s love and grace, hope and peace, offered freely to all who seek it.
This week, we continue our Lenten journey through the worship service, focusing on PRAYER. The PC(USA) Study Catechism helps us understand why we pray:
What is the purpose of prayer?
Prayer brings us into communion with God.
The more our lives are rooted in prayer,
the more we sense how wonderful God is
in grace, purity, majesty and love.
Prayer means offering our lives completely to God,
submitting ourselves to God’s will,
and waiting faithfully for God’s grace.
Through prayer God frees us from anxiety, equips us for service,
and deepens our faith.
I don’t know about you, but I sure could use some freedom from anxiety and deeper faith right now! Sounds like a good time to join us for worship when we will not just talk about prayer but actually do it.
Join us for worship at 10:45 am on Sunday at www.facebook.com/fpcyorktown. (You do not need a Facebook account in order to livestream the service.) Click here for Sunday’s bulletin, which we redesigned so that it is more compatible for most at-home printers and paper supplies. We will also put all of the hymns and liturgy on the screen so that you can sing and pray along with us.
In these isolating times, it has never been more important for us to live our mission of “Connecting with God, One Another and the World.” We hope you will join us for worship and continue to find creative ways to connect with each other throughout the week. Prayer is a great way to start!
See you in church,
Tami
