Got Stuff? Want to Responsibly Get Rid of It?

We hope you’ve noticed the Retake/Remake donation box in the Gathering Space. Retake/Remake is a non-profit organization based at the Hat Factory in Peekskill at 1000 N. Division Street. Their mission is to “promote creative reuse, environmental awareness and community by providing affordable, reclaimed art materials.” You can learn more about them.

Thanks to Lynda Spring’s efforts, we have donated over 40 pounds of art supplies.

You can visit them Thursday through Sunday from 10 AM to 3 PM and donate your own materials if they fit in two shopping bags or less.

Do you have clothes, tablecloths, suitcases, towels/blankets/sheets, or stuffed animals that you are looking to donate? Or maybe books, dishes, DVDs, or eyeglasses? Yorktown Love in Action will accept them, store them in its 10,000-square-foot warehouse, and put them to good use for families in need. Learn more.

Maybe you have furniture- yes, furniture! Furniture Sharehouse will collect your gently used furniture for a small fee and distribute it for FREE to families who are economically disadvantaged in Westchester County. Learn more.

Residents of Westchester County can recycle electronic waste, paint, pesticides, and fire extinguishers at the county’s Household Material Recovery Facility in Valhalla. The facility is open from 10 AM to 3 PM Tuesday through Saturday. On the first Tuesday of the month, you can also leave your expired or unused medicines. You need to make an appointment. Learn more.

Green Drop will pick up your unwanted items and distribute them to nonprofits. If you prefer, you can drop them off at the Green Drop location at 660 North Broadway in White Plains. Donations there benefit the American Red Cross. They accept donations every day between 10 AM and 5 PM.

You can arrange for a pickup, learn what they accept, and learn who they help.

Have other things to donate? Here’s a link to Westchester County’s recycling page. You’ll find places to donate clothes, automobiles, and other items.

Remember, “reduce, reuse, recycle!”
