It has been a slow start, but the garden has been mostly secured and planted. The traps have shown us that in addition to rabbits, we also compete with racoons, groundhogs, rats and skunks! The other morning when I approached I saw both a great blue heron and a redtail hawk patrolling the garden area. A trench has been dug around the main garden area by the town, which is planned for underground wire to be placed to avoid digging under the fence.
Right now we are doing small harvests of tomatoes, beans, peppers, and radishes. Recent plantings of radish, peas and beans will hopefully bring us into the late fall. Help is always needed and encouraged, Saturday from 10-2 and Thursday for harvest 4-dusk. Most of the small harvests have gone to St. Mary’s pantry in Mohegan so far this year. Questions?
