“Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened…”

We have opportunities here in our church for you to follow in Jesus footsteps. Yes, for you to follow in Jesus footsteps. I’m thinking of our recent Deacons’ meeting where we discussed our “Loaves and Fishes” and “Transportation” Ministries. We too need help. HELP we need HELP.! …yes, YOU. We want you! We need you to help us help those who ask and also those who often are afraid or hesitant to ask.

If you are reading this it’s a sign…YOU can help us with meals to the sick, home-bound and those recovering from recent surgeries and procedures. Sue Nelson coordinates these meals and says we have a continued need for volunteers. It’s really simple; you make a nice dinner (make some extra for your family too) and deliver it! You can’t imagine how grateful and happy people are to receive your meal and your thoughtfulness. You can sign up online to become a volunteer and there are also sign-up sheets in the gathering space. You will not be called on often – perhaps only once or twice a year. It could be more often but that would be on your terms… because you want to do it and really saw that you could help make a difference for someone.

Our “Transportation” Ministry is likewise in need of volunteers. There are three main ways in which we assist people who need help with transportation:

to and from worship service;
to and from other church functions;
to and from other activities and appointments like the “Senior Lunch Bunch”, doctor appointments, physical therapy, treatments etc.

Please go online to register as a volunteer. You could also call any one of the Deacons. The coordinator of this Ministry is Marianna Sherman. Oh! I almost forgot… we also have picked up individuals who are learning at “Guiding Eyes for the Blind” how to work with their dogs. They stay for about three weeks of training and sometimes wish to come to church and worship with us on a Sunday during their stay in Yorktown.

Please help. We need your help. Often it is hard for people around us to even ask for assistance. They may be embarrassed. They may not want to put anyone out. Deacons in the early church were there to help. We are here to help and with your help we can accomplish a great deal. Thank you for prayerfully considering it. God Bless you in this New Year!!
