On Sunday May 5th, we will hold an Offering of Letters campaign in Fellowship Hall during coffee hour before and after the 10:30 service. The purpose of this campaign is to encourage US senators and representatives to support a Farm Bill that will help build a healthy, equitable, and sustainable US food and agricultural system. It will also provide nutrition assistance to millions of Americans through programs such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).
You may recall that we held a very similar Farm Bill campaign last year, during which we wrote over 160 letters to senators Schumer and Gillibrand and Representative Lawler.
Why are we doing this again? The reason is that our previous effort was only partly successful. Last year, Congress passed a weak form of the Farm Bill that extended it for one year instead of the five years that had been sought. Since that extension will expire later this year, a new 5-year extension to the Farm Bill will come up for a vote again this year.
Please come to Fellowship Hall on May 5th and join us in our effort to ensure that this important bill passes.

Alternatively, you can print out copies of the letter and mail them yourself. (See below) Please print and sign your name and include your address under your signature, and remember to include your return address on the envelope. We encourage you to use the space above the spot for your signature to add a personal note about why this issue matters to you!
