1st Summer Reading Group on Inspired: Slaying Dragons, Walking on Water and Loving the Bible Again by Rachel Held Evans meets this week!
2 Opportunities to discuss Chapters 1-4:
- Wednesday, July 16 at 10:00 am
or
- Sunday, July 20 at 7:00 pm
Both opportunities are in person (in the Library) and online.
“If the Bible isn’t a science book or an instruction manual, what is it? What do people mean when they say the Bible is inspired? When New York Times bestselling author Rachel Held Evans found herself asking these questions, she embarked on a journey to better understand what the Bible is and how it’s meant to be read. Discover alongside Evans that the Bible is not a static text, but a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that can equip us and inspire us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world.”
Wednesday Evening Book Study
This week we discuss chapters 7&8 in Life After Doom: Wisdom and Courage for a World Falling Apart by Brian McLaren.
Our Tuesday morning group found this such a compelling read that we are offering an evening option, both in person and online, on Wednesday evenings this summer at 7:30 pm (after Centering Prayer). Incredibly thought-provoking, challenging and powerful, this is definitely a book to read with a group!
“Blending insights from philosophers, poets, scientists, and theologians, Life After Doom explores the complexity of hope, the necessity of grief, and the need for new ways of thinking, becoming, and belonging in turbulent times. If you want to help yourself, your family, and the communities to which you belong to find courage and resilience for the deeply challenging times that are upon us ― this is the book you need right now.”
