Our Sunday School is off to such a wonderful beginning to this brand new school year! One of the most exciting changes this year is the addition of our youngest class, Sparkle, for our 3, 4 and 5 year olds (pre-k to k). Be sure to share the good news! Remember we welcome and encourage our children to invite a friend to Sunday School!
News from Sparkle (PreK and K) — We are a small, yet mighty class! We welcome new friends to join us! The Sparklers have been busy getting to know one another and also getting acquainted with our room and our songs and such. We have been touching and seeing and hearing sounds of creatures from God’s beautiful world. And we are learning that we can see and hear and feel God’s love everywhere and in all of nature. Let’s take a walk and see what we find!!
News from Shine (Grades 1-4) — This year Shine is following a new curriculum— Path to Peace with Creation.
News from Connect (Grades 5-6) The Connect group welcomed everyone back to Sunday School and then dove into Genesis and the story of creation. So far, we have seen God’s love forming the world, the fall of man and (thankfully) the hope found in the gift of God’s grace. We will continue our journey through the Old Testament for the rest of the year.
News from FaithX (Grades 7-8) We have started exploring the Old Testament, with video, summaries, and lively discussion of Bible accounts of Creation, Rebellion and the Great Flood. These students have created art describing their interpretations of what we are learning. In future classes we hope to incorporate games, music, a movie or two, and time spent outdoors.
News from Fathom (Grades 9-12) We are super excited to have such a large class this year in Fathom. This year the Fathom teachers are Kaycee Perry and Ryan Haver, who are continuing from last year, and this year we are welcoming Sara Weaver to the teaching group as well! We have started the year off with a 4 session curriculum from PCUSA called Do Not Fear. We thought that since the words “do not fear” appear in scripture an estimate of 365 times, it would be a pivotal thing to study. The first Session, Tune in to God’s Presence has us focusing on ways we can listen for God whether it be from praying, cultivating quiet, or reading his written word in the bible. How do we tune out other voices and distractions and just focus on God? How do we focus on God in our Fear? We have been doing a meditation every class to help us center ourselves and our bodies, help us to be ready to tune into God. Learning how we can have more mindfulness in our lives. We will definitely be using this technique throughout the year. Can’t wait to see what the year will bring for us!
