Anne Lamott is well-known for her many books that combine faith insights with irreverent humor. Since I can’t improve on what the critics have written about her latest book Small Victories; Spotting Improbable Moments of Grace (248 L), I’ll quote: “A collection of beautifully written essays, filled with nuggets of wisdom gathered over years of mindful living. The stories tackle some heavy topics … [but] Lamott’s candor, and sarcastic, self-deprecating humor lighten the content and engage readers. …Her words heal us all.” (Chicago Tribune)
In our timedriven culture, Holly W. Whitcomb’s book Seven Spiritual Gifts of Waiting (248 W) encourages us to explore the hidden treasures of waiting patience, loss of control, living in the present, compassion, gratitude, humility, and trust in God. Since we all experience it; waiting for a new baby to sleep through the night, waiting in an airport departure lounge, the yearly periods of Advent and Lent, etc., this book is a useful guide to making waiting a positive spiritual experience.
