Education

The Church School – Sunday School , welcomes more than 100 children each Sunday morning, preschoolers through middle-school-age youth. With a rotating volunteer staff of about 50 people, Church School opens each week in the sanctuary with a joyous expression of faith in song, followed by the signature element of our Church School . . . the Storytellers!    Talented actors from our congregation bring Bible stories to life. Then, the children break into class groups and go to various classrooms and centers for hands-on activities that help reinforce the lessons from the Bible story.

Adult Education at FPCY offers a variety of seminars, discussions, and programs. Topics range from Bible study to the recent Bill Moyers’ PBS series on Faith and Reason. We aim to support the individual’s faith journey. While our emphasis is on the Bible and other Christian writings, we also explore the wisdom of other faith traditions. We provide a safe place to bring our doubts. We also challenge one another to grow. Although we may disagree with one another, we support one another in our search. We find affirmation in our search for the truth as we strive to “live the questions now.” (from Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet).

YPP Logo

Yorktown Presbyterian Preschool (YPP) is a non-sectarian, non-profit cooperative preschool for three and four year-olds. Because the school is a cooperative, parents are expected and encouraged to participate in all phrases of the school.

YPP provides a developmentally appropriate program in a warm, child-centered environment where children can learn through play and grow in self-esteem and independence. As a cooperative preschool, we affirm the importance of active parent involvement in the young child’s preschool experience.
