Commissions

The First Presbyterian Church  is governed by two formal collaborating structures:

  1. The Session and Deacons, organized according to the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The Session sets policy for and makes major decisions about the church.  The Deacons care for the congregation and community.
  2. A corporation chartered under the laws of New York State.  The Elders of the Session serve as Trustees of the Corporation. In 2011, the officers of the church corporation are Ian Spence (President), Pam Darreff (Vice President), and Gordon Braudaway (Secretary). The corporation has the legal power to make contracts on behalf of the church.

A number of Commissions carry out the regular activities of the Church, and report those activities to the Session.  Commission members are volunteers drawn from the Church membership.  Each Commission is lead by an Elder.
