Messages from the Church Office
We are constantly updating and maintaining the church database. As you receive
mailings and communication from the church, please let us know if we do not have
correct information. If the name, or names, on your mailings do not appear the way
that you would like them to, please contact me. Also, there will be some changes to
our group announcements, so please make sure to keep us updated if you have a
new or different e-mail address. Thank you for your help with this ongoing project!
You can always call me or e-mail – Kim Wertz -kim@fpcyorktown.org.
Pastor’s Relief Fund Available for Needy Families
We understand that this is a difficult time for families in our church who are unemployed. If the church can be helpful, the Pastor’s Relief Fund is available for short term help. Please contact Chip if you need to. And if you wish to donate, to the fund, please put “Pastor’s Relief Fund” on your check and drop it in the collection plate or mail it to the office.
From the Editors of The Disciple
Have a church question you’ve always wondered about or a topic you would like to see covered in the Disciple? Please send your queries or suggestions to Editors Judy Chessa and Barbara Dar-ragh at fpcy_Disciple@Googlegroups.com. We will try to find the answer for you or the person who can explain it.
Americorp—Volunteer Opportunities
Martha Garrison’s granddaughter is having a wonderful time volunteering for Americorp. It is a good chance to put your ideals into action, while learning new skills, making new connections, and earning money for college. Look at americorp.gov to see the many choices they offer or talk to Martha about her granddaughter’s experience.
We Need Your Help with Updated Pictures
We are adding photos to our membership database. We need individual as well as family photos from all of you. The photos do not need to be formal. Pick out your favorite digital photos and email them to Pam Darreff (darreffp@optonline.net) or drop off your favorite regular photos in the office. It would be helpful to have your name on the back of each. Thank you for your help!
Pastoral Care
If you are in need of Pastoral Care or Hospital Visitation, please inform the Church Office of your need.
Please let us know of an upcoming hospitalization or surgery by touching base with our Church’s Caregivers. Our Pastor, Elder Teams and the Deacons are here to meet your needs, but we can’t know unless you keep us informed.
Giving Opportunity:
De Cicco’s Market (on Rt. 6 across from the JV Post Office) will rebate 2% of your purchases to the charity of your choice, which also includes churches. Jocelyn Ramage has registered our church and all you need to do is mention it to the cashier when you make your purchase. Talk to Jocelyn 962-0320 for more information.
Baby food jars
… are needed by the Yorktown Presbyterian Preschool. Please save them for us as often as possible. Just leave them in a bag outside our classrooms (rooms 5 & 7). We will wash them and be ever so grateful!
Pledges
Tired of scrambling to write your weekly check for your church pledge? Forget to write that check when you’re away on vacation? Can’t find the checkbook or a pen when you need it?
There’s a simple, free solution — use your bank’s online bill payment system. Here’s what I do — I schedule a repeating monthly payment to our church. The bank sends a check to the church once a month, on the day of the month that I’ve specified. The advantage to me is that I don’t have to remember to do it. Our church can count on reliably receiving the funds at the same time every month. The accounting is simpler because the payment happens only once a month instead of every week — though my bank can certainly handle weekly payments if I choose. And it’s completely free, at least at the banks I use.
So if you want to simplify your life a little, while ensuring that you consistently fulfill your church pledge on time, try your bank’s online bill payment system.

Flowers for Worship Services
Members and friends are encouraged to donate flowers for Sunday services. Donors will be asked by the office when they purchase the flowers if they plan to remove one or both bouquets after sanctuary use, or make them available for distribution by the Deacons to hospitalized or homebound persons of the church. Arrangements are $25 each. To order, call the office (245-2186).
Reminders:
- Please remember to DRIVE SLOWLY on the unpaved parts of our parking lots.
- Please use plastic trash bags when putting stuff in the dumpster. Please do not put anything in there loose. It is messy and creates opportunities for rats.
Announcements Email List
Do you know about the church “announcements” email list? This is an email-based system for sending alerts to the church community — anything from deaths within our church family to Worship Service schedule changes due to snow cancellations.
Call the church office (245-2186) to sign up for this list.
